Angelina Jolie is the daughter of Academy Award-winning actor Jon Voight, 58, who won a Best Actor Oscar for 1978's Coming Home and who costars with Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible. Jolie, her stage name, is actually her middle name. Ultimately, Jolie decided to use her middle name as her last because, she says, "I love my father, but I'm not him". She grew up in Los Angeles, Angelina landed her first feature film starring part in HACKERS, portraying the only girl in the group who can lay claim to the status of elite hacker. She previously had roles in the independent features Gathering Evidence and Oh No, Not Her, and followed HACKERS with Foxfire. Growing up in Los Angeles, Jolie was no stranger to the film industry, being the daughter of Academy Award-winning actor Jon Voight. She later trained and performed at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, where she was seen in several stage productions. She worked as a professional model in London, New York and Los Angeles, and has also appeared in music videos for such artists as Meat Loaf, Lenny Kravitz, Antonello Venditti and The Lemonheads. In addition, she has acted in five student films for the USC School of Cinema, all directed by her brother, James Haven Voight.

Even though she planned to be a funeral director before becoming an actress. She says: "There's something about death that is comforting. The thought you could die tomorrow frees you to appreciate your life now." Jon Voight separated from Bertrand when Jolie was 1, remained in California while the family lived in the East. "He was the perfect example of an artist who couldn't be married," she says. "He had the perfect family, but there's something for him that's very scary about that."

Angelina, insists it was her mother, former actress Marcheline Bertrand, 46, who influenced her. "She loved taking us to the theater," says Jolie. Angelina has recently married the co-star of Hackers, Jonny Lee Miller. The marrage took place in May of 1996 where she wore black rubber clothes. She has a extensive dagger collection , reads books on Vlad the Impaler and has the Japanese word for death tattooed on her shoulder.

Today Angelina lives in Los Angeles and is now making movies like Playing God, with David Duchovny, and Foxfire, based on the Joyce Carol Oates novel
