She has starred with some of Hollywoods hottest leading men - Tom (Cruise), Brad, Antonio, Bruce, Tom (Hanks), George… Not too shabby a scorecard for an actress who has barely reached adulthood. Kirsten was born in Point Pleasant New Jersey on April 30th, 1982. Her mother, Inez, is an artist, and her father is a medical services executive. She has one brother, named Christian. When Kirsten was still rather young, her parents divorced and she and her brother stayed with their mom. Nurtured by her artistic mother, Kirsten decided she wanted to become an actress. Their small family eventually made the move out to Los Angeles to help Kirsten pursue her dreams. Success came early for Kirsten. After some preliminary experience earned with small roles in film and on television, Kirsten struck gold in 1994. She starred in Bonfire of the Vanities… okay well, maybe that flop wasn’t quite the launching pad she had hoped for (it is one of the biggest flop-stories in Hollywood history, much to the chagrin of stars Tom Hanks and Bruce Willis). Luckily for Kirsten though, that same year, she starred in Interview with the Vampire. As Claudia, the young child who is embraced by Brad Pitt and turned into a creature of the night, Kirsten was absolutely riveting. She was called upon to play a much older person trapped in the body of a child - and did so too perfection. Indeed it was difficult to believe that Kirsten even was a child in real life. The film was a success, and much praise was heaped upon Kirsten, who managed to outshine her glamour-boy co-stars, Pitt, Tom Cruise and Antonio Banderas. Dunst won an MTV Movie Award for her performance and was nominated for a Golden Globe. As she matured and became a teenager, Kirsten continued to act steadily. While she made time to star in teen-oriented fair such as Small Soldiers and Strike!, she also proved to have good instincts when it came time to pick roles that allowed her to demonstrate more range. Kirsten has always maintained a high level of quality and professionalism that sets her apart from her contemporaries. She turned in a string of beautifully intricate guest spots on hit television series E.R. as Charlie, a homeless girl who George Clooney’s Dr. Ross tries to help. Wag the Dog and Dick were both witty political satires. Now that Kirsten has reached adulthood she seems poised to move on to even greater success. Her schedule is heavy with work, with seven films ready to go into production through 2000-2001 - and as always her films promise to offer a mix of teenybopper fun and cool adult sophistication. |
